The Sycamore Education Foundation (SEF) is pleased to announce a new scholarship that will be available to Sycamore High School students in the graduating class of 2021. The Sullivan family has established the Liam P. Sullivan Memorial Scholarship to honor the life and legacy of their son.
Liam P. Sullivan graduated from Sycamore High School in 2015. His passion for sports was evident on the football field, wrestling mat, and the rugby pitch. He embodied the motto, “Once a Spartan, Always a Spartan,” as a Sycamore High School athlete and a fan.
“He’d be the first one smiling after a win and the first one to console others after a loss,” said his mother, Susan Sullivan. “He was always there to cheer on or cheer up his teammates whatever the outcome.”
After high school, Liam attended the College of DuPage before becoming a Marine (2016-2020). While active, he also completed certification at the Heavy Construction Academy (New Hampshire). His love for rugby continued as a member of the Men’s Fox Valley Rugby Club (St. Charles, IL), and the principles he learned through sports, including determination and commitment, allowed him to apply himself and achieve his goals.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of the Sullivan family. It is an honor to establish this scholarship in memory of Liam. His legacy will live on through the Sycamore students that will be positively impacted by this scholarship for years to come,” said Lauren Holtz, SEF Executive Director.
Sycamore students can apply for this $500 scholarship by accessing the application form through the Naviance system. They must be a graduating senior, accepted to a university, junior college, or a trade school. The student must have played rugby as a Sycamore High School student and exhibit an appreciation for the values exemplified by Liam’s life.
